CES is fighting for new laws
on the local and state level to expand tenants' rights and prevent
the loss of existing affordable housing due to demolition, major
rehabilitation and vacancy decontrol.
CES lead the effort to win a moratorium on major rehabilitation
evictions which is a loophole in the City of L.A.'s Rent
Stabilization Ordinance, which landlords used to target long term,
low rent tenants for eviction so rents could be raised. CES is
involved in helping to develop a new major rehabilitation ordinance
that would prevent evictions.

CES is working to prevent the Los Angeles
Unified School District (LAUSD) from destroying affordable housing
to construct needed new schools, thus pitting one vital need against
another.
CES is working with community organizations and elected officials to
develop joint use projects to build schools, affordable housing,
parks and other vital neighborhood needs.
